Ohio Governor John Kasich failed to stand up for women when he signed new abortion restrictions hidden in the State Budget into law last night. His $71 billion budget includes women’s healthcare regulations that are completely unrelated to the state’s finances, along with others.
Despite the efforts of Planned Parenthood, NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio, and that of our TSF members who were present in Columbus last night, the governor couldn’t be swayed to line-item veto the restrictive regulations. He also refused to personally address the public outside the chamber doors, slinking out a rear exit, and pushing the media news release out until after 9 p.m. EST.
Thank you to all our members who have aided in this important fight to retain freedom for women to not only choose, but to have safe, affordable clinics to receive healthcare. Your efforts of helping to run the phone banks, protesting up in Columbus, and sharing the restrictive nature of this horrible legislation was not a wasted effort.
