Politicians have the right to believe whatever they want. But let me be clear on this next statement. They do not have the right to impose that belief on everyone else!
I bring this up for several reasons. Since the Supreme Court’s ruling on the constitutionality of same-sex unions, several Tri-State area court clerks, including Boone County Clerk Kenny Brown, have stopped issuing marriage licenses because it goes against their personally held religious beliefs.
This past week in Ohio, politicians have added abortion restrictions to the budget which have nothing to do with the budget. Until our group took action, Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell was planning to drop children off at churches if out on the streets after a newly imposed curfew.
This is just the tip of the iceberg in matters of public policy being used to push personal religious ideologies. Many cities across the country pray before meetings, schools allow bible distributions, and city buildings are using tax payer money to fight legal battles in order to keep the yearly nativity scene on the city building’s lawn.
Which brings me to my final point. It is no longer acceptable for us to just complain about this blatant self-serving use and abuse of religious preference by so called public servants. When we see a violation, we need to report it and take action. More importantly We need to VOTE! We need to vote in new officials who will follow the rules of separation of church and state.
