Artificial Intelligence – Dr Nick Ernest
Nick Ernest, PhD – CEO, Psibernetix Inc. (http://www.psibernetix.com/ )
Dr. Ernest will discuss Artificial Intelligence (AI) in general, and will briefly introduce the two prominent methodologies of Neural Networks and Fuzzy Logic. The discussion will be aimed at high-level overviews, and will explain how the AIs work and what they can do in a clear and understandable way.
Neural Networks are by far the most popular methodology right now, and have recently captured the headlines with Google’s AlphaGo AI. Research by Cohen and Ernest has just recently enabled Fuzzy Logic to enter the domain of complex AI, and the results over the past year have been astounding, surpassing Neural Networks in many ways. Fuzzy Logic based AIs that will be discussed include LITHIA, an AI that predicts effectiveness of Bi-Polar disorder treatments, and ALPHA, an Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) AI that controls flights of UCAVs in simulated air-to-air combat missions. Both of these base methodologies utilize various learning systems, one of the most common being Genetic Algorithms. Lastly, Verification & Validation (V&V) will be covered, which is ensuring the AI performs as intended.
Psibernetix Inc. is a Cincinnati tech startup founded in July 2014 by Dr. Nicholas Ernest, a recent University of Cincinnati graduate of Aerospace Engineering. Dr. Ernest developed a new type of artificial intelligence utilizing biological inspired methods, the Genetic Fuzzy Tree, and created the company to apply this technology to a variety of markets.
